How to manage your acne during the holidays.

Being someone with acne prone skin comes with it challenges but even more so around the holidays. From navigating travel, stressing over seeing your in-laws, being exposed to dirty airports and being off your normal routine in general it’s no wonder this time of year acne prone individuals see an uptick in unwanted breakouts. Most of the time we feel like our acne controls us. But this holiday season we are going to show acne who is in control. Here are our best practices + tips so our skin doesn’t just survive but thrives this holiday season.

  1. Stressing over holiday food is actually worse than the food itself.

It’s no secret that certain foods play a role in our acne and skin health. Many acne prone people are very mindful and diligent of what they consume, and rightly so. As someone who struggles with acne it can be hard to know you won’t be in control over the food that is served over the holidays. Whether that be at holiday parties, family gatherings or meals out at restaurants. Remind yourself this is only temporary. It’s important to not deprive yourself in fear of acne or breakouts. Stressing over the food can be a bigger trigger than the food itself. Remember, moderation is key, be kind and gentle to yourself and don’t let fear of food control you. Nothing is worth your peace of mind.

2. Be prepared.

The best thing we can do for our acne is be prepared. Make sure you are not running low on any of your products before traveling; have you packed your supplements, did you put your Clean Skin Club towels in a baggie (ew hotel towels), did you pack your own pillowcase (who knows what Mom washes her sheets in) ect. As much as we hate it, acne doesn't take any days off so we can't either. Being prepared with all of the appropriate products helps us ensure minimal breakouts during the holiday season.

3. Spray all day.

Our #1 tip for airport travel is a hypochlorous acid spray. Airplanes and airports are notorious for dirt, germs and being a breeding ground for potential acne. Using an antibacterial, anti-inflammatory spray like a hypochlorous spray can be just what your skin needs to survive and thrive as you travel. Use the spray on your face, as a hand sanitizer or even to disinfect dirty airplane seats. It’s always our go to but especially this time of year.

4. Let your acne expert help.

Having acne already feels isolating. Instead of taking on this task alone, let us help! Take advantage of your acne expert and let them help troubleshoot any holiday hurdles when it comes to your skin. Whether it be travel, stress, acne-triggering foods or something else let them know what your pain points are when it comes to your acne this time of year. We are here to help alleviate any stress when it comes to your skin so you can enjoy the holidays like you’re meant to!

We hope you found this helpful as we embark on the busiest time of year for many of us. Remember, you are never alone on your clear skin journey. We always have your back (and your face!)
